visit-file
Read a file into the current buffer. | Ctrl-x Ctrl-v |
This command prompts for a file name, then reads that file into the
current buffer, and positions point to the beginning. If no file with
the given name exists, it creates a blank buffer. In either case, the
command discards the old buffer contents.
Before discarding modified buffers, the command asks if you want to
save the current buffer contents. With a numeric argument, it asks no
questions. This comes in handy for reverting the buffer to the
contents of its file.
