Epsilon User's Manual and Reference > Variable Reference >

soft-tab-size: preference buffer-specific variable

Default value: 0

If nonzero, indenting commands like indent-rigidly and back-to-tab-stop will indent by this amount instead of the setting of the tab-size variable.

If this variable is zero in a buffer, and there's a variable named thismode-soft-tab-size, where thismode is the current mode's name, Epsilon uses that instead of the default value of soft-tab-size.
